What is CPD?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. For certain pet professionals CPD is required to track and formalise on-going study. Some professions make this a pre-requisite in order to be listed or registered.

For home boarders, doggy day-carers and kennel/cattery owners it is likely to be a requirement for obtaining or maintaining an Animal Activities license (AAL). Likewise the new guidelines that have been issued for dog walkers highlight the likelihood of this becoming a regulated industry, so evidence of CPD may be required.

Vets, veterinary nurses, registered behaviourists and other regulated professions must provide evidence anually in order to remain listed.

CPD offers a number of benefits by:

  • Demonstrating ongoing learning
  • Showing that you are dedicated to your profession
  • Proving that your skills and knowledge are up-to-date
  • Indicating that you are proactive in terms of your own development
  • Providing you with a better opportunity to gain employment/promotion

All the programmes of study at PET Courses are written by a pet professional, who also has a professional teaching qualification and a background working in education. That’s why, for CPD logging purposes, each course contains a CPD transcript and for the more advanced courses of study, reflective learning documentation.
